Biography
Aiming to stimulate universal senses, Montreal-based artist, Kamba Sita, paints the essence and emotions of global humanity. His work is naturally influenced by his life and experience in Africa but also explores contemporary approaches combining realist, fantastical and abstract techniques. Kamba Sita was born in Kinshasa, Congo, in 1975. At the age of eight, his family moved to Libreville, Gabon, where Kamba Sita’s talent and appreciation for the arts began to grow. Naturally driven by this passion, he enrolled at the National School of Art and Manufacturing in Libreville after completing High School. In 1999 his career took off with two other painters and friends, Omer Maganga and Ben Armand Mickala. Together they formed a new generation of Gabonese painters, despite a lack of organized structure or support for developing artists. Sita’s paintings evoke the elements that make us feel alive: energy, rhythm, and movement. His enchanting, and emotionally engaging portraits unveil the power of the subject's personality, while activating an awareness of universal mystery. The paintings embody a musical force, vibrant in colour, and painted with experimental mixed-media techniques. Within each of Sita’s paintings, the textures and three-dimensional patterns give life to his art. Layering of gesso and paint, creating reliefs and complex compositions, provoke a reaction of the materials that give rise to subtle revelations and unique interactions. The use of a vivid red and ochre palette creates a fiery art, generating warmth that envelops and enchants the viewer. Sita’s main inspiration remains his land of origin, Africa, with its heat, aromas, and rhythmical pulse. Beyond his roots, Sita pursues progressive techniques and subjects, developing and defining his distinct style.
